Yvonne Drewry

Yvonne Drewry passed away on May 30, 2012 at Golden Living Center in Union City.

Born Leonora Yvonne Provow on June 3, 1921 in Water Valley, KY, she was the only child of Leonard Haffard and Elsie (Woodfin) Provow. She married Walter Herman Drewry in 1938. He preceded her in death in 1997.

Yvonne is survived by her children: Pat (wife Sandra), Shari (companion John Mooney), John (wife Xiajing) and Richard (wife Naomi) and her 12 grandchildren and several greatgrandchildren.

Mrs. Drewry was an accomplished musician who served as pianist and organist at Cumberland Presbyterian Church, South Fulton Methodist Church, First Christian Church, Morton Memorial Methodist Church in Clarksville,Indiana and at Keesler Air Force Bass in Biloxi, Mississippi. She played for more than 600 weddings in churches of many denominations.

Mrs. Drewry was a passionate Bible scholar and story teller. She was active in Christian Women's Club, a member of South Fulton Methodist Church, and the Order of Eastern Star.

Yvonne grew up in Covington, Tennessee, lived in the Fulton area before moving to Clarksville, Indiana where she enjoyed a career in merchandising at Sears. She retired to Gulfport, Mississippi where she volunteered as a gift shop manager at Memorial Hospital. After she moved back to South Fulton, Tennessee, she was referred to as "The Raggedy Ann Lady." She frequently gave programs on the history of the dolls and their creator, Johnny Gruelle.

Scholar, story teller, needle worker, bread baker, mother, grandmother and friend to all she knew. She will be sadly missed.

Funeral services will be held at 3:30 pm on Friday, June 1, 2012 at the Hornbeak Funeral Chapel and interment will be in the East View Cemetery in Union City, TN. Visitation will be at the funeral home from 1 pm Friday until the funeral hour.
