Wilburn Allen

Mr. Wilburn Allen, a life long resident of Fulton, passed away December 14, 2016 at Diversicare of Fulton at the age of 97.

A graveside service for Mr. Allen will be held Friday, December 16 at 3:00 p.m. in the Greenlea Cemetery in Fulton. Visitation will be held at the funeral home from 1:00 p.m. until time to leave for the cemetery.

Mr. Allen was a long time member of the Fulton First Baptist Church, where he was a member of the Three C's Sunday School class. He was also a 65 year member of the Roberts Lodge # 172 in Fulton. He was a former Fulton County Magistrate, was a Kentucky Colonel, and had served for several years as the ABC Agent for the Commonwealth of Kentucky in Fulton, KY. He was a retired Conductor for the Illinois Central Railroad, having worked there from 1942 until his retirement in 1984. He also worked several years for the United Fruit Company in Fulton and had served as a Volunteer Fireman for several years for the Fulton Fire Department. He took up the game of golf at the age of 70 and played his last nine holes at the Fulton Country Club on his 96th birthday.

Wilburn, who was born in Fulton on June 11, 1919, was preceded in death by his wife, Helen Neal Allen, in 1986. He was also preceded in death by his parents, Calvin & Ruth Allen, his step-mother Gladys Allen, his brother Woodrow, and his sisters Ila Mae Allen, Ina Bee Boaz, and Mossie Beadles Brann. His sister-in-law Rosemary Sutton and his brother-in-law Henry Neal and wife Maxine also preceded him, as did brothers-in-laws Jim Harvey Boaz and Stanley Beadles, his sister-in-law Eleanor Allen and one niece. His long time companion, Evelyn Burcham, also preceded him in death. He is survived by one niece and six nephews.

His knowledge of Fulton and the residents of the Twin Cities was vast and he will be missed by all those who were lucky enough to have known him.

In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that memorials in Wilburn's name be made to the Twin Cities Railroad Museum, 700 Milton Counce Drive, South Fulton, TN 38257.
