Sylvia Faye Haman

July 23, 1934 — June 21, 2019

Sylvia Faye (Smith) Haman, widow of Ralph Haman, passed away
peacefully June 21, 2019 in Germantown, TN.

Sylvia was born in Union City, TN on July 23, 1934 to the late Chester
W. Smith and the late Blanche Bingham Smith. She was an only child.
She spent her childhood years in the Union City, TN area and was a
1952 graduate of Woodland Mills High School. She also attended
Draughon's Business College in Memphis, TN. She spent most of her
adult life in Fulton,KY as a housewife and mother, grandmother and
great grandmother.

Sylvia was a lifelong member of the First Baptist Church, Fulton,KY.
She held many roles throughout those years. She led Sunday School
classes for mature women until her last illness forced her retirement.
At a younger age, she led aerobic exercise classes for women of all
ages. She was a leader in Awana, in Children's Ministries. She was
a member of the Grief Ministry that provides comfort meals to those
who have lost loved ones. Her dedication to her church and to her
Lord served as a testimony to all ages.

Sylvia was an accomplished seamstress. She made dresses and
other clothing for herself and her daughters and ultimately for her
grandchildren. She sewed draperies, upholstered furniture and even
auto seats. She also knitted and crocheted, both self-taught.

There are many adjectives to describe Sylvia, Strong, Fearless, Smart,
Brave, Funny to name a few. She always used an illness of hers,
especially her leg amputation, in a positive way to give encouragement
to others.

Sylvia leaves 2 daughters, Debbie Roper (Randall) of Germantown, TN
and Mitzi Rychlik (Chris) of Eagle River, AK. She also leaves 6 grand-
children, 14 great grandchildren and 4 great great grandchildren.

A celebration of life service for Miss Sylvia, as she was known, will be
conducted at Hornbeak Funeral Chapel, Tuesday afternoon, June 25,
2019. Visitation will be 12 noon - 2 pm with service at 2 pm. Pastor
Stephen Cavness will officiate. Place of rest will be Obion County
Memorial Gardens following the service.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the First Baptist Church,
P.O. Box 1140, Fulton,KY 42041.
