Susan Parr

December 7, 1948 — February 15, 2022

On February 15, 2022 Susan Ruth Burrow Parr shook loose the fickle
bonds holding us to this world. Susan was born on December 7, 1948,
in Fulton and spent almost her entire life as a proud resident of the twin cities.
A 1966 graduate of South Fulton High School, Susan earned a bachelor’s
degree from the University of Tennessee at Martin (UTM) in 1969 and
a master’s degree from Memphis State University just one year later. In 1971,
Susan and Donald (Donnie) were married. Very shortly thereafter, Uncle Sam
decided that the newlyweds should leave the beloved farm on Ralston Road
where Susan was reared and spend four years contributing to the war effort
from Sacramento, California.

Susan was a lifelong educator. Armed with two degrees in mathematics,
she began her career in the Golden State. Upon returning home in 1974,
her love of teaching continued with stints at Fulton City High School and
UTM. With a 25-year tenure, the bulk of Susan’s career was spent as
a teacher and the original technology coordinator for the Union City School System.

Visiting major league baseball parks and traveling throughout the country was
a passion that Susan shared with her co-workers, husband, sons, and grandchildren. Showering her kids, grandchildren, and everyone else, including random strangers, with Christmas presents was of particular importance. Susan worked tirelessly in everything she did, doing good wherever she went. After a bout with viral encephalopathy in 2013 she was confined to her home for most of her remaining days. Despite her condition, Susan found ways to spread her love of humanity to everyone she encountered.

Susan was preceded in death by her parents, JT and Myra Easley Burrow. Her selfless love will live on through the countless lives she touched; most prominently her husband Donald; sons, Donald of Louisville, KY and John (Katie) of South Fulton, TN; her brother Robert of South Fulton, TN; and 4 grandchildren, Matthew, Myranda both of South Fulton, TN, Baxley of Louisville, KY, and Madeline of South Fulton, TN. This brief summary of a life well-lived, should end with the phrase she would frequently speak and the words she would want everyone to hear, “Tell them I love them.”

Funeral services will be held at 11AM Friday, February 18, 2022 in our funeral chapel with burial to follow in the Obion County Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be held at the funeral home from 5-7PM Thursday.
