He came here from IL in 1974. He retired in 1992 from the IL Central Gulf Railroad where he worked as a conductor. He was a veteran of the US Army serving during Korean Conflict. He was a member of the Robert's Lodge #172,
a Rizpah Shriner, and a member of the Railroaders Shrine Club.
He is survived by his wife LaDonna Penrod Stearns, whom he married Nov. 8, 1952. Two daughters - Susan Renae Carter of Tunica MS, Lisa Dale Swift of Fulton KY. Three sons - Warren Allen Stearns of Ripley, WV,
William Andrew ( Bill) Stearns and Albert Eugene (Bert) Stearns, both of Carbondale IL. 3 sisters-Mary Ann Leggans of Cambria IL,
June Knapp of Herrin, IL and Dawn Feil of Green Bay, WI.
2 brothers- Daniel E. Stearns of Willamina, OR, and John E. Stearns of McMinnville,
OR. 15 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents -Ruth (Anglin) &
Lawrence "Fuzzy" Stearns and 2 brothers.
Funeral services for Mr. Stearns will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday, October 13th at the Hornbeak Funeral Chapel and burial will follow in the Mt. Zion Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 5-8 on Friday and anytime after 8 a.m. on Saturday until the funeral hour. Masonic services will be held at the funeral home at 7 p.m. on Friday. Memorials may be made to the Shriner's Childrens Hospital 202 Goodman Street
