1960 Mark 2022

Mark Malin

September 26, 1960 — August 20, 2022

Mark Steven Malin, Sr. graduated to glory
on August 20, 2022. He was at home, surrounded
by his loving family. He passed away after a brief
 journey with cancer.

Mark was born on Sept. 26, 1960 in New Kensington,
Pennsylvania, the last of three children born to
Donald and Betty Malin. He graduated from Belair
High School in Baton Rouge and joined the
United States Army Reserve in 1978, where
he served in the Engineer Corps maintaining heavy
equipment for six years.

In 1979, he married the love of his life, Marcia,
who adoringly calls him her knight in shining armor.
Together, they raised two sons, Steven and Joel.

Though he worked as an instrument technician at
Westlake Chemical Company for more than 20
years, his favorite title was “dad.” Mark was affectionally
known to his children as “BBD,” short for “Big Bad Dad,”
which is how he often signed his name. His sons fondly
remember many mornings playing karate with their dad
in the living room, in his armor of choice, long johns.
A dedicated family man, Mark spent as much time as
possible with his family fishing, camping, hiking, boating,
grilling, and telling jokes, and he could be found frequently
singing or whistling “Marks greatest hits”-his favorite songs included
Brand New Key, Love Potion No. 9, anything by Elton John and Raindrops
Keep Fallin’ on My Head.

Mark was known for his keen sense of adventure and his love
of outdoors, illustrated by his sons’ memories of fishing in the
rain, cooking bacon over a campfire with snow falling above, weekends
spent with his wife and family in their boat or RV at Country Junction,
and even angling for exotic sea urchins on a family trip to Jamaica.

Mark could fix anything at work or at home. You’d frequently
find him working on refurbishing his early 1900s farmhouse,
teaching his sons how to restore cars, or repairing appliances, tools and
anything he saw that needed some TLC.

Although Mark’s adventures were interrupted too early by cancer,
he knew the great Fixer and Healer, his Redeemer, Jesus Christ.
As Hebrews 12:2 instructs, Mark kept his eyes on Jesus, the author and
perfector of our faith. In his last days, Mark frequently reminded his
family to trust God.

Mark is survived by his wife, Marcia; son Steven (wife Stephanie);
son Joel (wife Christiana); sister Valerie (husband Dale and daughters
Mary and Jenny); brother Don (wife Bess, daughter Tara, and
her husband Andy and their son, Zach).

A visitation for Mark will be held at Hornbeak Funeral Chapel on
August 27 from 3 - 4 p.m., with a funeral following at 4 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Mark’s honor to The Agape
House of Northwest Tennessee, P.O. BOX 472, Martin, TN 38237.
