Margaret Elizabeth "Liz" Flowers Hantes

Margaret Elizabeth “Liz” Flowers Hantes, 70 years old, of Dallas,Texas passed away peacefully on September 13th in Kingston, NY after a courageous battle with ALS.

She was born in Fulton, Kentucky on June 29, 1942 to Dorothy Watts and James Flowers of Union City, TN and graduated from South Fulton High School in 1960. In 1966 she met and married Samuel George Hantes and moved to Dallas, Texas where they settled and began a family.

In her youth, she was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Harris Station. She continued in the faith, raising her daughter at the First United Methodist Church of Mesquite, Texas and most recently became a member of the First United
Methodist Church of Coppell, Texas.

Liz had a very successful career in the transportation business beginning her career
at Sears Roebuck and Co. In 1981 she was hired by Mary Kay Cosmetics, Inc and charged with the job of overhauling the entire ground transportation department. Over 28 years, she dedicated herself to building a seamless logistics department that worked
hand in hand with local, state, national and international agencies to allow products to be
sourced, manufactured, packaged and distributed to the four corners of the world. She
retired with great accolades and honors at the beginning of 2010.

A respected member of the transportation community, she was a member and past President of both the Transportation Club of Dallas and Delta Nu Alpha Fraternity receiving Woman of the Year and numerous other commendations.

She was an honor graduate of Dallas Baptist University with a double major in Business
Administration and Psychology. In her free time she loved to travel the world experiencing new cultures and studying Spanish. Liz never met a stranger.

She is survived by her daughter Lisa Hantes of Kingston, New York; her brothers William
Covey and Charles Covey and sister Kathy Loredo of Dallas, Texas and Lori Fernandez and
Sherri Arnold of Illinois. She is known in her family as the kind, caring matriarch, always at the
game, graduation or recital. Her legacy lives on in the children of her nieces and nephews and
all people who have been touched by her kindness. The list goes on.

Funeral service will be Saturday, Sept. 22, 11 am at the Harris Station United
Methodist Church and interment will be in the Obion Co. Memorial Gardens. Ms. Hantes will lie in state at the church from 10 am Saturday until the funeral hour. Visitation will be on Friday, Sept. 21 at the Hornbeak Funeral Chapel from 5-8 pm.
