Longtime banker and community leader, L. M. McBride of Fulton, died Saturday, May 23, 2009, at Jackson Purchase Community Hospital. McBride served as president, chief executive officer, and chairman of the board of City National Bank in Fulton where he worked for 35 years.
McBride was born in Haywood County, Tennessee on October 21, 1924, to Floy Ann and Louis Kenneth McBride. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Albertine (Abbie) Booth McBride; daughter and son-in-law, Brenda and Robert Mahan, of Fulton; and grandsons John Nanney of St. Louis; and Bradley Nanney and wife Angela, of Fulton. He is also survived by great-granddaughters, Abigail Reese Nanney and Avery Michelle Nanney of Fulton. He was preceded in death by one son,Gary McBride, and his parents.
McBride practiced the Rotary International motto - service above self - as a member of the Fulton Rotary Club for 48 years throughtout the community and state. He served on the Kentucky Bankers Association board of directors for six years, including one term as president, six years on the American Banker's Association Community Banking Council and three years on the Kentucky Chamber of Commerce board of directors. He served as president of the Twin Cities Chamber of Commerce and was twice named Chamber of Commerce Citizen of the Year. McBride was a member of the First Baptist Church in Fulton where he served as a deacon for many years.
One of McBride's main interests was economic development. He served a number of years as treasurer of Fulton Industrial Corporation and was chairman of Fulton Industrial Development Authority for over 30 years. He was instrumental in the purchase of the Fulton Industrial Park acreage and the location of several industries in Fulton.
Visitation for Mr. McBride will be at the Hornbeak Funeral Chapel from 5 pm until 8 pm on Monday. Services will be conducted at 11 am Tuesday at Hornbeak Funeral Chapel with burial to follow in Greenlea Cemetery in Fulton.
