Juanita (Sublette) Ballance

Frances Juanita Sublette Ballance, age 98, of Decatur, IL departed this life on Friday, November 14, 2014 in the comfort of her home with family by her side.

Juanita was born on August 19, 1916 in Clinton, KY, the daughter of
Marylou (Davis) and Harry Rupard Sublett, Sr. She married
Thomas Stephen Ballance, December 24, 1942 in Washington, MO
(Franklin County). He preceded her in death on August 13, 2011.

She attended Murray State University, Murray, KY and graduated from
Millikin University in 1956. She taught first and second grade in the
Mt. Zion district, at Salem and McGaugney schools from 1956-1976.

She was involved in multiple organizations including hereditary societies. She served as chapter regent, division three director, and committee chair on state level of the Stephen Decatur Chapter,NSDAR. She was the chapter president and also served as an officer on the national level of the Illinois Chapter of Colonial Daughters of the Seventeenth Century. She was also a member of the Illinois Chapter National Huguenot Society and the DuPage Chapter of the National Society Daughters of American Colonists. She was a member of the Central Christian Church, Disciples of Christ for 58 years. She was formerly from the Cayce and Clinton area. She was reared in the Rush Creek Church area.

She leaves behind a daughter, Charlotte Ann Ballance and granddaughters,Katherine Cora Haussermann (Adam) and Victoria Anne Ochoa (Luis). She is also survived by her great grandchildren, Thomas, Lillian, Alex, Christopher,Cora, Andrew, Sophie and Henry; her sisters Agnes Sublette and Margaret Gambill, and son-in-law Michael Klimas, as well as many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, daughter Elizabeth
Jane Klimas, granddaughter Rebecca Elizabeth Klimas, brothers J. Henry
Sublett,Ben D. Sublett, Harry Sublett,Jr. and sisters Martha Sue Birk and Mary R.Bellew.

Graveside service will be held at 10 am Monday, November 24 at the Rush Creek Cemetery with Rev. Hugh Barksdale officiating. There will be no visitation held at the Hornbeak Funeral Home and friends are asked to meet at the cemetery at the hour of service.
