Joe W. Johnson

Mr. Joseph Ward Johnson,Jr, age 74, of Fulton, KY died Wednesday, March 11, 2015 at the Landmark Hospital in Cape Girardeau, MO.

Joe W. Johnson has been a practicing attorney in Fulton, KY since his graduation in 1966 from the University of Tennessee School of Law at Knoxville, TN. He was licensed to practice in the state
and federal courts in both KY and TN. He served three terms as Fulton County Attorney and one term as Commonwealth’s Attorney for the First Judicial District which is made up of Fulton,
Hickman, Carlisle, and Ballard Counties. As Commonwealth’s Attorney he was instrumental in setting up a monthly meeting for the local law enforcement officers, including the Sheriffs and
policemen of the four counties to get to know each other and foster good relations to assist in cooperation among the departments and across the county lines. After his time as a prosecutor, he helped out as a Public Defender for Fulton and Hickman Counties before devoting his full attention
to the private practice of law.

Mr. Johnson has been a member of various civic clubs in the area and was a former President of the Fulton Jaycees, Fulton Rotary Club and Fulton Lions Club. He was also a former Scout Leader for
the Boy Scouts of America and a member of the First Church of Christ Scientist in Fulton where he has held positions as Chairman of the Board, Church Treasurer, Sunday School Teacher, and a
Reader in the Church. He has been in charge of various projects in the area including the renovation of the stone home on Carr Street formerly known as the “R. H. Wade Home” and now owned by the
First Methodist Church of Fulton. The stately home served as Johnson’s Law Office from 1987 to his relocation to Lake Street several years later. One of his favorite projects in the Twin Cities was the Fulton Lion’s Club’s erecting of a flag pole and establishing a veterans’ walk in the Greenlea Cemetery.

He is survived by his wife Sharon (Armstrong) Johnson of Fulton,KY,a son Kevin Ward Johnson of Castro Valley, CA.

He was preceded in death by his parents Sarah (Binford) and Joseph
Ward Johnson,Sr. and son Joseph Lee Johnson.

Funeral services will be held at 1 pm Saturday, March 14 in our funeral chapel with burial to follow in the Greenlea Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 11 am Saturday until the hour of service.
