Jimmy Newton

October 23, 1941 — July 7, 2020

James H. (Jimmy) Newton, age 78, of Fulton, Kentucky passed away on July 7, 2020 at Jackson Madison County Hospital in Jackson, Tennessee.

He was born in Fulton, Kentucky on October 23, 1941 to the late C.H. (Sparky) and Nell (Buckingham) Newton. He was a member of First United Methodist Church where he sang in the choir. He was a member of the Fulton Rotary Club.

Jimmy was a Murray State graduate and a paratrooper in the 101st Airborne Division in Fort Campbell, Kentucky. He retired as a mechanical engineer from Stanley Jones Corporation in South Fulton, TN and Optimech in Hendersonville, TN. He lived in this area all of his life. Jimmy was the chairman of the Ken-Tenn Golf Tournament for many years and was an avid golfer. He also served on the Fulton Independent School Board for 12 years, he was Board Vice Chairman in 1989-1990 and Board Chairman in 1994.

Jimmy is survived by his wife, Sharon Moore Newton of Fulton, whom he married on June 5, 1992; four children: Jim Newton (Emily) of Franklin, TN, Melissa Newton of Fulton, KY, Ben Mullins (Macie) of Wingo, KY, and Ryan Mullins (Katie) of Nepean, Ontario, Canada; and four grandchildren: Jacob Newton of Franklin, TN, Ellie Claire Newton of Franklin, TN, Cade Mullins of Wingo, KY and Coby Mullins of Wingo, KY, a sister Margaret Shirah of Edinburg, TX and a brother, Lynn Newton of Jonesboro, AR.

 

Jimmy donated his body to science through the genesis program at the Medical Education & Research Institute in Memphis, TN. A memorial service will be held at a later date.
