He was a member of Bayou De Chien Cumberland Presbyterian Church. He was a Korean veteran, serving in the U. S. Army from 1952-1955.
He was previously employed as Director of Legal Administration, assistant corporate secretary and assistant to the Senior Vice President in Law for the former Burlington Northern Railroad in Ft. Worth, Texas. He had also
served as Veterans Affairs Officer for Fulton County, KY, was commissioned a Kentucky Colonel and was a past member of the American Bar Association and the Texas Association of Legal
Administrators. After his retirement, he returned to this area and was employed as an office assistant to Dan Voegeli from 1992-1998 at the Fulton office.
He is survived by a son, James Earl Hanks of Water Valley,KY,
two sisters, Betty A. Jones of Hickman,KY and Freddie L. Crews of St. Louis, MO.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Geneva V. (Hancock) Hanks, one son, Stephen Wayne Hanks, his parents, John Floyd Hanks and Ovie
(Rice) Hanks, and two sisters, Wilma M. Phillips and Peggy J. McCollum.
There will be no services or visitation held at the funeral home.
