James C. "Buck" Menees

James C. "Buck" Menees, age 93, of Fulton passed away Sept. 24 at 5:28 PM at Haws Memorial Nursing Home. Services will be held at 2 PM Saturday at Hornbeak Funeral Chapel with burial to follow in the Obion County Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be held at the funeral home from 12 Noon Saturday until the service hour.
He was born June 30, 1921 in Cayce, KY to the late J.C and Manila (Cason) Menees.
He was a member of Smith Street Church of Christ, Hickman and Fulton Lions Club, past directors of Purchase Area Development District, State Board Sherriff Association and County Judge Association. He was a farmer in the Cayce Community in his early life and attended Murray State University.
He was joint owner of the Treece and Menees service station in Fulton before entering politics in 1966. He was Sheriff of Fulton County from 1966-1970, County Judge from 1970-1978 and Judge Executive from 1978-1982. He had lived all of his life in this area.
Buck was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Marie Lynn Menees whom he married Feb. 12, 1949; his daughter and son-in-law Cheryl(Menees) and Don Dennis of Beaverton, OR, his son Keith Menees of Memphis, TN, six grandchildren; Sarah Collado of Brandon, MS, Lauren Boyens of Nashville, TN, Julianne Shelly of Springhill, TN, Jay Menees of Columbia, SC, Kelly(Dennis) May of Eugene, OR, Danielle Dennis of San Antonio, TX, one great granddaughter, Peyton Shelly of Springhill, TN.
In addition to his parents, Buck was also preceded in death by his daughter-in-law Lori Menees on Sept. 8, 2014.
The family request that memorials be made to the Smith Street Church of Christ, 411 Smith Street, South Fulton, TN 38257 or Lourdes Hospice, 911 Joe Clifton Drive, Paducah, KY 42001.
