Inez Mikel Brock
July 16, 1939 — November 24, 2017
Inez Mikel Brock, age 78, of Paducah, KY, born July 16, 1939 in Brewton, AL, went home to be with God and her loving parents when she passed away at Diversicare of Fulton on Friday, November 24, 2017 following an extended illness.
Inez is survived by her husband of 27 years, Daniel Brock, her daughter Mareena and her husband Terry Glynn Bennett of Fulton, KY. Inez was preceded in death by her parents, Carl and Blonnie Jackson Mikel of Hickman and one brother Charles Mikel. She was a member of First Methodist Church of Hickman, KY.
Inez was well known throughout Western Kentucky and the commercial marine industry as the "Voice of Hickman Harbor Service" in Hickman, Kentucky. For many years, Inez was instrumental in relaying critical information between River Companies and Towboat Captains when Marine Telephone Operator coverage was minimal and long before cell phones existed.
Inez began her marine career at Hickman Harbor Service, later with Flowers Transportation and The Valley Line Company, all at Hickman. Inez moved to Memphis to accept a position with Memphis Marine, in 1985 to assist with management of a local Harbor service.
In 1990, Inez married Captain Daniel Brock, then, Marine Superintendent for Ingram Barge Company and moved to Paducah, KY where she continued her marine oriented career with first, Blue Grass Marine, later Marquette Transportation, Kentucky Marine Shipyard and finally retiring in 1999 from National Maintenance and Repair to assist her husband Daniel with MB Marine Consultants, a company they operated jointly until her second retirement in 2010.
Inez was a tremendously talented individual and will be missed by all who had privilege of knowing her.
Graveside services will be held at 2PM Monday at the Pleasant View Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be held at the funeral home from 1PM Monday until time to leave for the cemetery.
