Elmo S. Underwood

October 17, 1919 — December 20, 2008

He was a member of the Cumberland Presbyterian Church in South Fulton and was a former elder. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving in World War II. He was a 45 year member of the VFW Post #3838 in Cape Girardeau, MO. He had lived in the Cape Girardeau area for some 20 years before returning to this area in 1973. He was a retired salesman.

He is survived by a daughter and son in law - Rita and William Mitchell of Fulton, KY and 2 step sons Bill Hobson of Phoenix, AZ and Ray Ham of Atkins, TX;
3 grandchildren Ben Mitchell of Murray, KY, Morgan Mitchell
of Knoxville,TN and Steve Slezinski of Fort Gratiot, MI;
7 step grandchildren,3 great grandchildren and 2 step great grandchildren. Also a sister Jackie Armbruster of Fulgham, KY a niece and 4 nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife Ruth Babb Underwood, his parents George Arthur Underwood and Ida May Willie Underwood Neely, a daughter Sandra Slezinski, a brother and 2 sisters.

Funeral services will be held at 1 pm Tuesday, December 23, 2008 at the Hornbeak Funeral Chapel. Burial will be in the Clark Cemetery. Visitation for Mr. Underwood will be on Monday from 5-8 pm and anytime after 8 am Tuesday until the funeral hour. Memorials may be made to the Cumberland Presbyterian Church
