On October 5, 2023 Harry Thomas Ward, DVM breathed his last here on earth.
Harry was born on August 30, 1948 in Gibson County, Tennessee. A childhood spent working on the farm and with animals led to early admission to Auburn University School of Veterinary Medicine, where he graduated in 1972. He spent a year in internship at Collierville Animal Clinic, then seized the opportunity to purchase a large and small animal veterinary practice in Fulton, Kentucky in the spring of 1973.
Harry Ward practiced veterinary medicine in Fulton and the surrounding area for over 50 years. His skill in caring for all animals, from dogs and cats, to cows, pigs, horses, and sheep, to birds, snakes and wild animals was renowned over several states. People would travel from far away for his help, and he loved to drive all over the countryside treating animals until his very last days.
Harry was a long-time member and Paul Harris Fellow of the Fulton/South Fulton Rotary Club. He taught youth, then couples' Sunday School class. When not working (which was most of the time), he spent his time farming, raising cattle, playing tennis and ping pong, and enjoying basketball.
Harry was preceded in death by his parents, Wallace and Doris Jackson Ward. He leaves behind his beloved wife of 51 years, Sally Sorrells Ward; daughter Betsy Bailes (Shawn) of Nashville, TN and son Wallace Ward (Julie) of Union City, TN; brother Johnny Ward (Jeannie) of Dyer, TN sister Janice Pafford (Don) of Memphis, TN; and four grandchildren, Anna Jane and Charlie Bailes of Nashville, TN and Andrew and Alex Ward of Union City, TN.
