Cleatus Gordon Wilbanks

April 29, 1927 — January 16, 2019

Mr. Cleatus Gordon Wilbanks, age 91, of the McConnell community passed
away Wednesday, January 16, 2019 at his residence.

 

Cleatus was born in Dyer County, TN, April 29, 1927. He was the son
of the late Marshall Cleatus Wilbanks, Bessie Runions and his step-mother
Ina Wilbanks.

 

He was a United States Army veteran where he served in World War II and a
member of McConnell Baptist Church where he loved and served his church.
He was very patriotic and loved to read his bible (he read three times through),
ride horses, rabbit and bird hunt. He especially loved his bird dog, Ole' Sport. He loved
the Lord, his family, his church and so many friends.

He is survived by his wife of 71 years, Wilma Jean Speight to whom he married on
February 8, 1948, a son, Gordon (Melinda) Wilbanks, a daughter Linda (Joe) Wade
all of Martin, TN, four grandchildren; Kelli (Kevin) Barnes, Kristi Wade, Cory Wilbanks,
Clint (Ashley) Wilbanks all of Martin, TN, four great-grandchildren;
Blake (Sarah) Barnes of Cordova, TN, Anna Barnes, Liam and Lottie Wilbanks
all of Martin, TN, a sister Bobbie Bartell of South Bend, IN.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his daughter-in-law,
Janet Wilbanks, a brother, Billy Wilbanks, five sisters; Hazel Rumley, Vivian
Brooks, Norma Jordan, Mildred Bunnell and Dorothy Cavin.

He had many names, Bub, Uncle Bub, Daddy, Grandaddy, Tevus, Gigi, Papaw,
Pawpaw, Pappy and Jane Jane. Uncle Bub had the best nieces and nephews
and was so proud of each one.

 

Funeral service will be held at 11 am on Monday, January 21 in our funeral chapel with burial to follow in the McConnell Baptist Church Cemetery.  Visitation will be at the funeral home from 4-7 pm on Sunday and after 9 am on Monday until the funeral hour.
