Charlie Thomas

October 27, 1921 — March 1, 2016

Mr. Luther Charles (Charlie) Thomas a long time resident of Fulton, KY, passed away on March 1, 2016 at Tennova Healthcare- Volunteer Martin in Martin, TN. Born on October 27, 1921 in Gideon, MO, he grew up on a small farm in Graves County, KY and graduated from Fulton High School. He was awarded football
scholarships first at Holmes Jr. College in Goodman, MS then Memphis State University where he graduated in 1942. He served as an officer in the US Navy during World War II and remained in the reserves for 20 years.

Charlie was a well-known teacher and football coach at Martin (TN) and then Union City (TN) and finally in Fulton, KY. He devoted thirty two years to the Fulton Independent School district as teacher/coach, then Principal of Carr Elementary and finally Superintendent of the Fulton Independent School District. After his retirement the Fulton Independent School Board dedicated
a new addition of Carr Elementary to Charlie in recognition of his years of exemplary leadership. He was active in the Fulton Lions Club and served on the board of the Fulton Country Club. He was a long time member of the First United Methodist Church and the Fulton Country Club.

Mr. Thomas was married to Betty Lou (McCellan) for over 45 years and then to Helen (Rice) Thomas both whom preceded him in death. He had one daughter, Terry (Thomas) Kephart, who also preceded him in death.

He is survived by two grandsons; David Charles Kephart of Salida, CO and Sam Thomas Kephart of South Fulton, TN, one great grandson, Max Thomas Kephart of McKenzie, TN and a son-in-law, Roger Kephart of Nashville, TN.

Memorial services will be held at 12Noon Saturday, March 12, 2016 in our funeral chapel. Visitation will be held at the funeral home from 11AM Saturday March 12, 2016 until the hour of service.

In lieu of flowers the family has requested memorials may be made to the Fulton Public Library, 312 Main Street, Fulton, KY, The First United Methodist Church, PO BOX 1386, Fulton, KY 42041 or to the charity of you choice.
