Charles Thompson

Mr. Charles Thompson of South Fulton died early Tuesday, May 12, 2015 at the Baptist Health of Paducah.

He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Fulton where he was an active member. He enjoyed the First Methodist Coffee Club, the McDonald's coffee group and working the Ken-Tenn Foodbank. Charles loved the Lord whether it was at the Methodist Church or South Fulton Baptist Church where he attended in the later years. He was a member of the Robert's Lodge for over 60 years.

Charles Thompson served 4 years during the Korean Conflict in the U.S Navy as an Aviation Structural Mechanic 2nd Class. He retired from the Illinois Central Gulf Railroad in 1991 after working 43 years as a conductor. Charles married Beverly Coulter of Bow, New Hampshire on July 15, 1952 in Coronado, California. They had three children Sandra Lynn, David Clinton and Maxwell Dean. She died in June, 1988.

He is survived by his brother Johnny (Jane) Thompson; his daughter Sandra (Jerry) Joyner and a son Max (Donna) Thompson and his wife Pearl Mann Thompson seven grandchildren; Wesley (Katie) Joyner, Alison (Mark) Johnson, Taylor Thompson, Amanda (Chad) Joyner, Andy (Sarah) Thompson, Kara Thompson, Laura (Robert) Murphy. He loved his nine great-grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his wives Beverly Thompson and Joan McAlister Thompson who died in January 2000 and his parents Clint and Lucene Harper Thompson.He greatly mourned the loss of his son, David Clinton Thompson in August 2014.

Funeral services will be held at 2PM Saturday in our funeral chapel with burial to follow in the Greenlea Cemetery. Visitation will be held at the funeral home from 5-8PM Friday.
