Carl (Sonny) Puckett Jr.

Carl “Sonny” Puckett Jr., 89, of South Fulton passed away Oct. 23, 2014, at Baptist Health Hospital in Paducah, KY.

He was born Jan. 19, 1925, in Water Valley, KY, son of the late Carl and Ruth (Holland) Puckett. He married the former Vada Ward June 12, 1949. She survives.

Mr. Puckett was retired from the restaurant business. He and his wife were the former owners of Café Capone’s in downtown Fulton. They were the original builders and owners of the former Park Terrace Motel and Restaurant and the former The Barn Restaurant and Supper Club in South Fulton. He had also owned Puckett’s Service Station. He had been honored as Kentucky Service Station of the year. He had been a real estate agent and builder in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., and was also a former resident of Memphis.

Mr. Puckett was a graduate of Fulton City High School and was a U.S. Navy Air Force veteran, a former Obion County commissioner, Chamber of Commerce director, director of the Jaycees in the Fulton-South Fulton area and member of the American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars. He had been named a Kentucky Colonel and was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Fulton. He enjoyed his beloved family, beautiful yard, hat collection and polished cars.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his daughter, Dana Fredrick of Memphis; two sons and daughters-in-law, Dave and Jackie Puckett of Mayfield, KY, and Phil and Kim Puckett of Dallas; seven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; his brother and sister-in-law, Ralph and Shirley Puckett of South Fulton; and his sister, Margaret Jones of South Fulton.

He was preceded in death by his sister, Marjorie Owens.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 28 at Hornbeak Funeral Home in Fulton, with burial following there in Greenlea Cemetery.
Visitation will be at the funeral home from 5-8 p.m. Monday and on Tuesday until the hour of service.
