Bro. James Edwin "Jim" Cannon

Bro. James Edwin "Jim" Cannon, age 80, of Hixson, TN died Wednesday at the Life Care Center of East Ridge (TN).

He retired in 1992 after 45 years as a Church of Christ minister. He served as minister for the Lone Oak Church of Christ in Paducah,KY for 31 years. He also previously served congregations in the Owensboro,KY area and the Northside Church of Christ in Mayfield, KY. He was a member of the Clear Creek Church of Christ in Hixson, TN, was a U.S. Navy
veteran and was one of the founders of the Western Kentucky Youth Camp in Marion, KY. Bro. Cannon held several gospel meetings in many areas, and
was the featured speaker in Bertesgarten, Germany and several
Christian colleges and universities. He was instrumental in the beginning stages of the Christian Student Center at Murray State University.

He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Hazel Marie (Cook) Cannon known as Cookie of Hixson, TN. A son and daughter in law - Phil E. and Jana Cannon of Chattanooga, TN and 2 grandchildren - Caleb Cannon and Kidron Cannon both of Chattanooga, TN.

He was preceded in death by his parents- Murgeon (Colley) and Willaim Adair Cannon and a brother William Adair "Bill" Cannon.

A visitation for Bro. Jim Cannon will be held on Thursday at the Clear Creek Church of Christ in Hixson, TN from 5-8 pm (EST). Funeral services will be held on Saturday,September 13, 2008 at 1 pm (CST) at the Lone Oak Church of Christ in Paducah, KY.
Dr. Ed Grogan, David Cannon and Tom Warren will officiate and burial will follow in the Oak Grove Cemetery near Dukedom, TN. Visitation will be at the Lone Oak Church of Christ from 11 am Saturday until the funeral hour.
