Anna Elizabeth Thompson

Mrs. Anna Elizabeth (Baker) Thompson passed away January 4, 2015 at the Park Terrace Assisted Living in South Fulton, TN at the age of 93.

She was born July 16, 1921 in Bolivar, TN to Austin Alexander Baker and Annie Lee McAnulty Baker. She attended the University of Tennessee at Knoxville where she was a member of Alpha Omicron Pi sorority and worked for many years as the bookkeeper for the family's building supply, construction and pallet manufacturing businesses.

She married Sam W. L. Thompson on April 6, 1947 and soon after moved to Somerville, TN where they managed the Fayette County Lumber Company until 1968, after which the returned to Bolivar. With the help of her architect brother they renovated and modernized a Victorian Gothic home (Circa 1869) known as "The Manse" located at 429 N. Main Street in Bolivar where she resided until 2010.

Anna Thompson was instrumental in the founding of Hatchie Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution and was a loyal member until her death. She spent many hours researching the ancestral lines of her family and was happy to assist others that shared her hobby. She was also a member of the Fulton Woman's Club.

She was a lifelong member of the Bolivar Cumberland Presbyterian Church and in her later years attended Bayou de Chien Cumberland Presbyterian Church in Water Valley, KY.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and a sister and brother - Ruth Baker Van Booven and Austin Baker, Jr. She is survived by four children: stepdaughter, Virginia Thompson Webb of Memphis, TN and her three sons, Samuel Baker Thompson of Fulton, KY, Robert Alexander Thompson, of Columbia, SC and Dr. Frederick Hampton Thompson of Chattanooga, TN. She was adored by her nine grandchildren - Kristyanna Thompson Williams, Christopher and Lindsay Anne Thompson, Taylor and Madison Thompson, Jack and William Webb, Carrie (Webb)Knecht, and Wesley Kenneth Walden. She also had 15 great grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at 2 pm on Sunday, January 11 at the Bayou de Chien Cumberland Presbyterian Church (Kingston Rd.) Water Valley,KY.

In lieu of flowers, the family has requested memorials to the American Cancer Society.
