Allen Gearhart

March 25, 1946 — September 11, 2019

Allen Gearhart, 73, died on Wednesday, September 11th in Lexington, Kentucky. He was born on March 25th, 1946, in Charleston, West Virginia.

 

He is preceded in death by his wife, Jen Ray Gearhart, with whom he owned and operated The Color Corner and Oak Forrest Restorations for nearly thirty years in Fulton, Kentucky. He is survived by his only son, Dr. Grant Allen Gearhart, his daughter-in-law, Encarni Cruz Jiménez, and two grandchildren, Alejandro Allen Gearhart Cruz and Antonio Luis Gearhart Cruz, all of Savannah, Georgia. He has three surviving sisters: Jeanie (Gearhart) Graham of Lexington, Mary (Gearhart) Gray of Dallas, Texas, and Susan (Gearhart) Plas of Tampa, Florida.

 

Allen earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology from Western Kentucky University before settling in Fulton. He was active in the Fulton community as a city commissioner, a member of the Fulton Independent School District’s site-based committee, a varsity cross country coach for Fulton High School, and a dedicated member of the Fulton High School booster club. He was known for his talents as craftsman, and especially for his professionalism and thoroughness on jobs.

 

An informal visitation will be held at the Bar 101 of the Meadows Hotel, 101 Commercial Street, in Fulton, Kentucky from 6PM on Monday, September 16th. All are welcome to pay respects at that time. A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, September 18th at 4:30 PM central time at the Memorial Cross in Sewanee,TN
