James Dorcus Mays

Mr. James Dorcus Mays, 73, of Hickman died on September 3, 2014 at his home . He had retired from the U.S. Corp of Engineers as a crane operator and was a veteran of U. S. Army. Mr. Mays was of Catholic faith. Mays is survived by wife, Betty (Dean) Mays of Hickman; mother, Dora (Gardner) Mays of Philadelphia, PA ; sons, Edward James Mays and James Hughes, both of Hickman; daughters, Tonita Mays of Pensacola, FL and Vicky Mays of Mississippi; brothers, Oscar Mays and Michael Mays, both of Sacramento, CA and Matthew Mays of Washington State; sisters, Frances Mays, Beulah Mays and Annie Anthony, all of Marysville, CA, Margaret Shindler of Philadelphia, PA, 11 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his father, James Preston Crockett Mays, son, Timothy Alexander Mays, brothers, Joseph Mays, Walter James Mays and Mark Mays. Funeral services are scheduled for 12 noon on Saturday, September 13, 2014 at the Thomas Chapel CME church with Rev. Kimberly Traylor officiating. Burial will follow in the Hickman City Cemetery with military rites. The family will receive visitors at the church on Saturday from 11:00 A.M. until service time at 12 noon.
