James D. (Sam) Weatherly

Mr. James D. “Sam” Weatherly, 81, died on Saturday, January 11, 2014 at his residence in the Sassafras Ridge community of Fulton County. He was a member of the Sassafras Ridge Baptist church where he served as a Deacon, and was a former song leader and Sunday school teacher. Mr. Sam was a retired farmer and former vice chairman of the Fulton County Board of Education. Survivors include his wife, Doris (Herane) Weatherly of Sassafras Ridge community, son, David Weatherly of Hickman, daughters, Virginia Stanford of Lakeland, TN, Myrna Parks of Hickman and Sherry Darnell of Tiptonville, TN; brother, Raybon (Pete) Weatherly of Troy, TN and sisters, Thelma (Dolly) Wilkerson of Fulton, KY and Barbara Blanton of Hickman, eight grandchildren, Kristy Prince, Jamie Thetford, Wendy Vincent, Shaun Parks, Kim Thompson, Joseph Sumara, Maegan Weatherly and Leah Weatherly and ten great grandchildren, Chelsea Williams, Emily Biggers, Madalyn Williams, John Cameron Williams, Kirstie Thetford, Hayden Thetford, Taylor Ervin, Ethan Ervin, Sydney Vincent and Bennett Thompson. Mr. Weatherly was preceded in death by his parents, Jack and Beulah Weatherly, 2 brothers,Raymond (Tutty) Weatherly and Bobby Joe Weatherly, 3 sisters, Dorthy Simmons, Opal Oatsvall and Helen Sue (Nancy) Jackson, grandchild, Laura Kate Weatherly and great grandchild, Colby Gallimore. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Monday, January 13, 2014 at Strong Funeral Home with Revs. Charles Southerland and Robert Johnson officiating. Burial will follow in the Hickman City Cemetery. The family will receive visitors on Sunday, January 12th after 6:00 PM at the funeral home and again on Monday, January 13th from 10:00 A.M. until service time.
